About the destination

Halfway between East and West, and between the North and South of Europe, Bratislava sits at a crossroads, bordering Austria and Hungary. It’s a beautiful old city, warm and welcoming, and its tranquillity contrasts with the busy, lively pace of its present-day inhabitants. Surrounded by pastoral landscapes of vineyards and historic castles, straddling both banks of the River Danube, Bratislava gives you a real sense of travelling back in time. The city has a charming medieval quarter, Staré Mesto, with narrow winding streets, a castle perched on a hill near the Danube, and many castles and ancient churches to explore. The old town centres on two main squares: Hlavné námestie (Main Square) and Hviezdoslav Square, named after the famous Slovak poet. Long rows of Communist-era buildings along the river recall life before Slovakia joined the European Union in 2004. Since then, the city has grown in reputation as a cultural tourism hotspot and as a thriving business centre. Visitors to Bratislava will find an ever-growing range of plush places to stay and a great choice of chic bars and restaurants, along with an impressive line-up of museums, galleries and contemporary art spaces. And when you’ve had your fill of exploring the city itself, it’s easy to escape the hustle and bustle: you can walk, cycle or picnic in the forested hills that surround Bratislava, or head out to discover some of the many vineyards and castles scattered across the surrounding region.

Our hotel is situated on the Zlata Noha hill in the Koliba district. It is a tranquil area with natural surroundings and a beautiful panoramic view of the city. The nearby forest is an enticing prospect and the Little Carpathian mountain range is a favourite with tourists, particularly locals. The area is popular during the ski season; there is a new funicular; but the south-eastern side features vineyards and in the north there are many castles, ruins and Driny, a public limestone cave. We recommend you use our excellent transport links to access the city centre; there is a bus stop only 50 metres from our residence. Besides the famous Danube River, the city contains many attractions such as the Slovak National Museum and the National Gallery. The historic centre features many architectural styles including Gothic, Arte Nouveau and Baroque. Come visit Bratislava, the city of many cultures.
