Girona (in Catalan and officially: Girona) is a Spanish province located in the northeast of the autonomous community of Catalonia. It has a population of 761,947 inhabitants (INE 2018) and its capital is Girona, where 13.16% of the total population lives. It borders the provinces of Barcelona and Lleida and France, as well as the Mediterranean Sea, with an exclave surrounded by France, the municipality of Llivia. In this province you can do a bit of everything; it is one of the best areas in the community. You can relax on spectacular beaches, enjoy stunning views from beautiful mountains, visit charming medieval towns and even wander through a volcanic region. Some of the places you simply can’t miss are Cap de Creus, the easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula; the volcanic area of La Garrotxa, Sant Pere Pescador (a wonderful little town), Lake Banyoles, Figueres, Cadaqués and Tossa de Mar, among other spectacular spots. And when it comes to activities, don’t forget to sample the gastronomy of the Costa Brava – it will amaze you; visit a winery in the Empordà; see the village from the film *Eight Basque Surnames* (Monells); go scuba diving in the Cap de Begur area; attend the Indianos Fair in Begur; or enjoy a local festival during the month of August.
