Trancoso, like much of the southern Bahian coast, has a landscape of cliffs and plateaus very close to the shore, beaches with reefs, and coconut trees growing on pale sand. Trancoso stands out as a destination that offers peace and quiet, with good places to stay and plenty of dining options. Trancoso is located on the so‑called Discovery Coast, in the south of the state of Bahia and only 30 kilometres from Porto Seguro, which is its main access airport. The so‑called “Quadrado” is one of its main tourist attractions, along with its beaches. This green square, surrounded by colourful, simple houses, is the historic centre of Trancoso. It sits on one of the high plateaus that are so typical of the Bahian coast, about 400 metres from the sea, and is centred around a small 17th‑century church.
